I'd say the Cohen Bros version of True Grit was decidedly better than the original! While this was not a particularly strong year for film, the ones nominated are certainly not emblematic of the problems Hollywood has drawing audiences. Another Spiderman reboot, anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I try to watch all the major films up for awards. I have no problem with lesser known movies being nominated and winning big at the Oscars, but The Artist, while a nice flick, entertaining, funny in spots, is a trifle. It's not an important film, it doesn't say much about the human experience.

Someone mentioned flights are cheaper now than in the 70s. True enough, but like so many other things that are cheaper now, the joy is gone. The flight used to be a part of the trip that was anticipated. Now it is dreaded.
Does English teacher Natalie Munroe deserve to be suspended for blog posts in which she called her young students 'disengaged, lazy whiners'?

Well done for your dad, Joe. I'm glad that he found a dignified job in the government. I certainly didn't expect he would have gotten his old job back, but now I ask you: Was his unemployment his fault for not having a college degree?
